TMS adaptable auditory control - a universal tool to deal with TMS-evoked auditory potential

چکیده
Abstract Coupling transcranial magnetic stimulation with electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) allows recording the EEG response to a direct, non-invasive cortical perturbation. However, obtaining genuine TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs) requires controlling for several confounds, including auditory evoked (AEPs) associated TMS discharge noise (TMS click). To rule out AEPs from TEPs, AEP can be mathematically removed contaminated TEP through off-line pre-processing, or early prevented by masking click during TEPs acquisition. Although more effective, use of latter is limited due risks delivering loud noises subjects. We tested and released Adaptable Auditory Control (TAAC), an open-source Matlab®-based tool that users generate customized designed on coil-specific click. Notably, create tailored subject-specific perception, TAAC mixes manipulates in time frequency domains two standard used literature (i.e., white adapted Here we compared generated both population 20 healthy subjects quantifying sound pressure level (SPL, dB, measured Head Torso Simulator) required mask Both were effective at safe lower SPLs respect noises, according safety guidelines. By minimizing loudness, generates each device single individuals. Associating real-time visualization waveforms help control procedure’s effectiveness non-compliant patients. Finally, highly flexible tool, so its applicability extended meet different experimental setups may affected acoustic startle responses, such as TMS-electromyography. Short-term effects of single repetitive TMS sessions on auditory evoked activity in patients with chronic tinnitus.
Subjective tinnitus is the perception of a sound without any external source. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been examined as a treatment tool for chronic tinnitus for several years trying to target hyperactivity/abnormal synchronization within the auditory cortex putatively underlying the auditory phantom percept. However, its exact impact on auditory cortical activity...
متن کاملPrestimulation phase predicts the TMS-evoked response.
Prestimulation oscillatory phase and power in particular frequency bands predict perception of at-threshold visual stimuli and of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced phosphenes. These effects may be due to changes in cortical excitability, such that certain ranges of power and/or phase values result in a state in which a particular brain area is more receptive to input, thereby bias...
متن کاملResting Heart Rate and Auditory Evoked Potential
The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between rest heart rate (HR) and the components of the auditory evoked-related potentials (ERPs) at rest in women. We investigated 21 healthy female university students between 18 and 24 years old. We performed complete audiological evaluation and measurement of heart rate for 10 minutes at rest (heart rate monitor Polar RS800CX) and p...
متن کاملBrainstem Auditory Evoked Potential in Primary Hypertension
Arterial hypertension is a frequent worldwide health disorder prevalent in a large percentage of the population and has adverse effects on the brain throughout one’s lifespan. This study was undertaken to evaluate the BERA as potential markers of early nervous system damage in essential hypertension and also to correlate the changes if any, between blood pressure and BERA in patients with essen...
متن کاملInduction of plasticity in the human motor cortex by pairing an auditory stimulus with TMS
Acoustic stimuli can cause a transient increase in the excitability of the motor cortex. The current study leverages this phenomenon to develop a method for testing the integrity of auditorimotor integration and the capacity for auditorimotor plasticity. We demonstrate that appropriately timed transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) of the hand area, paired with auditorily mediated excitation o...
